World NGO Day

An international calendar day held on 27th February every year to celebrate, commemorate and collaborate with the various NGOs around the world.

Each year, World NGO Day is celebrated from New Zealand and Australia, to
the North and South Americas, bringing together supporters from the NGO
sector, international and government leaders, multi and bilateral
organizations, private sectors, communities, teachers, learners and experts
in the field. Officially recognized and declared by 12 member countries so far and marked by the UN, EU leaders and international organizations since 2014.

Key facts

  • First celebrated on February 27th, 2010
  • Founding members: Belarus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Norway and Sweden
  • Objective: To pay tribute to the NGOs and volunteers who give their time to help NGOs make a difference
  • Remember: To recognize the hard work NGOs are doing to bring about positive change in the world and the inspiring results they are achieving
  • Collaboration: Creating a greater symbiosis between NGOs and the public and private sectors, as well as finding new ways for businesses and public authorities to support NGOs

World NGO Day is a day for NGOs around the globe to share knowledge and experiences with one another. It aims to educate individuals worldwide on NGOs and their impact. The World NGO Day provides an opportunity to honour and remember NGO founders, employees, volunteers, members and supporters.
