Women and Youth Empowerment Microfinance Institution (WOYE MFI) was established by MRDA in 2007 as a micro-credit component of the Women and Youth Empowerment project (Phased out in 2009). The initial purpose of this pilot scheme was to provide life skills to impoverished women and youth of Mundri (and its environs) and to make financial services accessible to them to enable them participate in livelihood activities and thus improve their standards of living.

The vision of WOYE MFI is to be a leading microfinance institution in South Sudan. Its mission is to work with women and youth in South Sudan to improve their economic power through access to financial services, entrepreneurial skills and full participation in creating opportunities for livelihood and self-reliance. To realize its Vision and Mission WOYE has set the following objectives namely to:

Develop and provide a range of financial services to women and youth that include traders, micro entrepreneurs, small and medium businesses
Empower and help poor women and youth to enhance their confidence in income generating activities (IGAs) through increased access to credit
Train borrowers to increase their assets and access to mainstream economic activities
Boost clients’ repayment abilities and thus decrease risk of default by training them in health, education and other capacity building support and
Improve capacity of staff to run the MFI effectively. Partnership with MRDA to provide the training is recommended for effectiveness as well as efficient use of WOYE limited financial resources.
