Sida is a government agency that works on behalf of the Swedish Parliament and Government to reduce poverty in the world. Through our work and with others, we contribute to the implementation of Sweden's policy for global development.
We work both to implement the Swedish development policy that will create opportunities for poor people to improve their living conditions. Our mission includes also conduct reform cooperation in eastern Europe, which are funded by a special grant. The third part of our mission is to provide humanitarian assistance to people in need.

We are engaged in enhanced development cooperation with a total of 33 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America. Which countries should we work with are political decisions.

Sida's task is to administer grants and other funding. Our activities are guided primarily by government regulation, which describes how the work is done, and by the Government's annual appropriation, which among other things specifies the goal page should be the year's activities and the size of the budget.

Our employees with their expertise assists the government with assessments and supporting the need to develop and implement their development policies. We are involved in advocacy work for Sweden's priority issues in the development field, and for a dialogue with other countries and international organizations. The data is also included to report statistics and disseminating information about the business.

Our work is financed by taxpayers' money and we handle about half of the total ODA. The other half is channeled primarily through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. All our work should be carried out cost-effectively and with a focus on results.
