The Jordanian Astronomical Society (formerly the Amateur Astronomy Association) was established in Amman in 1987.
Its temporary headquarters is currently located in the Haya Cultural Center. The association includes about 50 active members.

OBJECTIVES:

- Work to gather amateur astronomers in Jordan and the Arab world, in order to develop their astronomical hobby through the exchange of information, research, observational experiences, and the needs of the amateur astronomer, such as astronomical tools, periodicals, books, and references, if possible.
- Work to create popularity for the hobby of astronomy, spread culture and astronomical awareness among the various classes of society, and clarify the importance of this science and its relationship with other sciences, such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, earth science, ecology, technology, and communications…. And even philosophy.
- Moving astronomy from hobby to methodology and from individual initiatives to institutional frameworks.
