Date of establishment and identity of the association
The Society was founded in 1932 by Mr. Arshad al-Amri, Secretary General of Baghdad, where he invited 150 people of the Kingdom's dignitaries, supervisors and thinkers, and presented them with the idea of ​​establishing the Iraqi Red Crescent Society, like civilized countries.

29/02/1932: The Iraqi Red Crescent Society was formed. - March 1, 1932 The General Assembly met and elected, including an administrative body consisting of 8 members.
16/06/1934: Recognition by the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society.
23/6/1934: The Iraqi Red Crescent Society was established as a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
Article 26 of the Statutes of 1988 states that the Society has a distinguishing mark, a red crescent, which opens on the right of the beholder and in red. The name of the association is written in Arabic and English in white in the center of the green frame. This mark shall be placed on all the property, possessions, hospitals, centers and conveyances of the association and shall not be used by other institutions. Bodies, equipment and health centers marked with the Red Crescent are protected from excess and exposure in accordance with Article 44 of the Geneva Conventions of 1949.

Definition of the work of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society
Is an independent national humanitarian organization whose work is to alleviate the pain and suffering of members of society without discrimination in times of peace and war during natural and non-natural disasters. The Society is one of the active associations of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The work of the society depends on the principle of voluntary work, which is the basic rule in the work of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society has been committed since the beginning of the founding of the principle of volunteerism, which is one of the basic principles of the international movement.
Voluntary service is the embodiment of the fundamental principles of the International Movement and the Red Crescent, where volunteers are the cornerstone of the Society's work. Voluntary relief does not work for any interest and aims to provide voluntary relief without seeking any profit.

In time of war
The Society seeks to assist the wounded, alleviate their plight, search for missing persons and prisoners, and provide health aid to war patients and wounded without discrimination between friends and foes according to international conventions.

In time of peace
The Society seeks to assist those affected by natural disasters inside and outside the country, such as floods, earthquakes, volcanoes and epidemics, where they open dispensaries and first aid centers and prepare cadres of volunteers for first aid and nursing work to prepare them for emergencies.
