CNDH advise the Government and Parliament on national legislation relating to human rights, promote research, education and the teaching of human rights and contribute to the dissemination and entrenchment of the culture of human rights.

The National Commission for Human Rights (CNDH) born of the ordinance 2006-015 of July 12, 2006, the CNDH-Mauritania, now governed by the law 2010-31 of July 20, 2010.

The CNDH is a consultative National Institution for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, which since 2012 is constitutional, public and independent with administrative and financial autonomy. The CNDH is an advisory body, observation, warning, mediation and evaluation of respect for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law.

The CNDH is responsible for:

advise the Government and Parliament on national legislation relating to human rights
contribute to the dissemination and entrenchment of the culture of human rights;
promote research, education and the teaching of human rights
