The Association Internationale pour la Sauvegarde de Tyr (AIST) is Non-Governmental Organisation with a mission to save the cultural heritage of the city of Tyre through the implementation of projects, activities to enhance, promote the cultural, social and economical development of the city. In order to achieve its mission the Organisation has directed its efforts in the following fields:
Traditional handicrafts and SME' s,Cultural Tourism, Culture and Education, Marine Environment

Among its important achievements:

A world-wide campaign to draw the attention of South Lebanon authorities and public opinion to the considerable stake which Tyre’s safeguard constitute to humanity
The adherence of Lebanon to the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property; Tyre and three other Lebanese cities were inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1984
Thirteen national committees to Save Tyre have been formed, ranging distinguished personalities in the political field, culture and science in the following capitals: Paris, Brussels, Washington, London, Bonn, Amsterdam, Rome, Tunis, Vienna, Tokyo, Damascus, Madrid and Beirut
Decisions and resolutions favoring Tyre has been adopted by the United Nations Council, UNESCO, the European Parliament, the U.S. Senate, the House of Lords, the World Federation of
Twinned Cities and the Arab League
The official launch of UNESCO International Campaign in 1998 to protect and develop the sociocultural heritage of Tyre and its surrounding through a program of rehabilitation and development
The organization of numerous events such as exhibitions, forums, gala dinners, symposiums,conferences, concerts, craft fairs, and film projections throughout Europe, America, and the Arab countries Films, slides, scale models, photo panels, posters, were developed
The fencing of Tyre archaeological sites
The demining of Tyre archaeological sites after various wars
The creation of an Educational and Development centre and a Glassblowing workshop in Tyre
The creation of the League of Canaanite, Phoenician and Punic Cities in 2008 , 40 cities from the Mediterranean basin are members as of today
Four committees are in charge of developing and implementing:

A Handicraft Village in Tyre
A Centre of Research in Beirut
A Cultural Tourism project: Phoenician Seas
A Marine Environment project: Green Ports
