In the sixties, the Medina of Tunis was becoming increasingly threatened by the demolitions that could result from the breakthrough of great avenues through the historic fabric.

In response to these threats, the Municipality decided in 1967 to create the backup of Association of the Medina.

This settled objectives, among others, to rehabilitate the image of the old city and redefine its role in the urban area of ​​Tunis.

The ASM's mission is not only to preserve the specificity and the unity of the historical city but also to ensure its integration into the rest of the city to avoid its marginalization.

Thirty-nine years after its creation, through its architecture and planning workshop and his construction team, ASM ensures henceforth various missions in the Medina (consulting, project management, restoration firms study, training ...).
It remains, above all, a place for meetings and research on urban, architectural and socio-economic issues affecting the historic city.
