World Relief's mission is to empower the local church to serve the most vulnerable. With initiatives that focus on disaster response, health and child development, refugee and immigration services, economic development and peacebuilding, we work holistically with the local church to stand for the sick, the widowed, the orphaned, the alienated, the displaced, the devastated, the marginalized and the disenfranchised.

Throughout our history, World Relief has responded to wars, famine, flooding, tsunamis, earthquakes and deadly epidemics. Whether it’s providing winter clothes for refugees fleeing war in cold climates, medical supplies to help those fighting the spread of massively fatal disease or food for survivors of famine, World Relief empowers survivors with tangible support.

Many diseases are fully preventable and treatable. But prevention and treatment must be accessible to each person. World Relief’s health and child development programs work to ensure this happens. Our programs holistically address the health and well being needs of adults and children.

Our world is currently in the midst of the greatest refugee crisis in history. By the end of 2014, nearly 60 million people were forcibly displaced, with nearly a third—20 million—living outside of their countries as refugees. Desperate for protection and surrounded by unfamiliar, sometimes unwelcoming faces, refugees are truly some of the world’s most vulnerable people. Working in partnership with the local church, World Relief is committed to helping refugees and immigrants from all countries resettle and rebuild their lives.

In the Darfur region of Sudan, fighting caused by scarce access to water, land, and other natural resources, and fueled by ethnic rhetoric has caused food insecurity and endemic poverty. Recurring health, nutrition, water shortage and sanitation problems are the major challenges facing this region.

Beginning its programs in the Darfur region of Sudan in 2004, World Relief is currently the primary NGO partner providing interventions in the Azirni, Sanidadi and Umtaguok localities in West Darfur specific to health, nutrition, food security, livelihoods and water sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) activities. World Relief plans to expand its programming in health, nutrition, and WASH into Central Darfur State in 2016, and aims to meet the needs of the Sudan people through love in action so that those living in the region may have abundant life.
