Details

The Society in Jordan is a branch of the Society for the Protection of Animals World Wide, SPANA, which is a British Charity founded in 1923, based in London, but with operations in Morocco, Tunisia, Mali, Algeria, Syria, Mauritania and Ethiopia. The Society aims to promote welfare, good husbandry and the prevention of cruelty to animals. It provides first aid for working animals especially horses, donkeys and mules that are owned by the farmers in the poor rural areas. The health of these animals is of great importance to the owners and to the sustainability of the local economy in outlying areas. SPANA encourages a love of animals and teaches up to date methods of animal husbandry and good care of animals; it aims to enhance positive attitudes in dealing with and caring for animals, as these creatures play an important role in our societies and in preserving the environmental balance on earth. Animals need to be treated with respect, as they exist in societies and nations just as do humans .
