SOS SAHEL, an international, African-founded nonprofit organization, aims to improve the food security of rural communities in Sub-Saharan Africa, an undertaking that began nearly 40 years ago.
The Sahel region is one of the poorest and most environmentally challenged on Earth. Today frequent and severe shocks, like climatic variations – including droughts and irregular rainfalls – limit the livelihoods opportunities available to local populations, especially the rural and most isolated ones.
With a demographic expansion expected in the next decades, and an increasing loss in soil fertility, the future promises to bring even more challenges.
