UNDP Algeria supports the implementation of Algeria's policies and strategies for its sustainable development, in close cooperation with national institutions, local authorities and associations of civil society.

The UNDP development programs portfolio in Algeria focuses on five priority areas:

Human development and the fight against poverty;
The consolidation of good governance, including gender equality;
Energy and environmental preservation;
Prevention of natural disasters;
The empowerment of women.

The work of UNDP in Algeria is coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its Directorate General for Multilateral Relations. UNDP acts as part of its 2012-2014 Country Programme, which was prepared jointly with the Algerian authorities and approved by the board of directors of the organization in January 2012.

The Country Programme provides for three strands of intervention: human development, governance and environmental protection, while gender is transversely treated in all activities. The Country Programme is itself a component of the Strategic Cooperation Framework 2012-2014, approved by the UN system in Algeria and the Algerian Government in July 2011.
