Integrated Care Society

The Integrated Care Society (ICS) is a non-governmental organisation founded in 1978. In 1985, the ICS opened its first public children’s library followed by many more in the years to come. The libraries are set up in socially disadvantaged regions in Egypt, in order to inspire children and young people to read. At the same time, the libraries contribute to the development of the respective areas. In 2011, 14 public libraries existed in four districts, including a few mobile libraries for children.

Apart from maintaining libraries, the ICS conducts projects for children and young people. For instance, the ICS hosts the Arab Children’s Literature Programme of the Anna Lindh Foundation in Egypt.
