Details

Greenpeace is an independent global campaigning organization that acts to change attitudes and behavior, to protect and conserve the environment and to promote peace.

Greenpeace is present in over 40 countries across Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa and the Pacific.

To maintain its independence, Greenpeace does not accept donations from governments or corporations but relies on contributions from individual supporters and foundation grants.

Greenpeace has been campaigning against environmental degradation since 1971 when a small boat of volunteers and journalists sailed into Amchitka, an area north of Alaska where the US Government was conducting underground nuclear tests. This tradition of 'bearing witness' in a non-violent manner continues today, and our ships are an important part of all our campaign work.

Greenpeace Mediterranean:

Greenpeace Mediterranean, established as a foundation in Malta in 1995, has been actively campaigning in Turkey, Israel, Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt on issues such as climate change and renewable energy; nuclear power; GMOs and sustainable agriculture; marine resources and pollution of the oceans. With currently over 60 staff in Turkey and 25 more in Israel and several Arab countries in the region, Greenpeace Mediterranean (GP Med) has ambitious growth plans aiming to double its available resources by 2016. The composition of its offices in a volatile Region of high geopolitical attention, with ongoing political unrest and social change; the ambitious plans especially for Turkey, and its young, enthusiastic and innovative staff make Greenpeace-Mediterranean a unique office in the global Greenpeace community, and an important contributor to the international Greenpeace programme.
