In 1979, in the process of democratizing the Spanish born Spanish Commission for Refugee Aid (CEAR) , with the firm intention of responding to the need to defend the right to asylum and refuge.

With the passing of the 90s and the different structural changes in society, CEAR is a need to work in refugee source countries. The strategy for the protection of refugees and displaced requires a comprehensive approach, working on the causes for forced displacement, which are mainly poverty and violation of human rights. It is from this analysis is created when the CEAR Foundation - Habitáfrica today Habitáfrica Foundation.

The Habitáfrica Foundation was promoted in 1996, as legal, financial and organically independent entity, in order to contribute in the countries of origin to the protection of vulnerable groups and people living in extreme poverty or at risk of exclusión.Adolfo Suarez he was president founder, and its vice-presidents Juan Maria Bandres and Diego Hidalgo. During almost fifteen years of activity, the Foundation Habitáfrica was modifying its mission to focus its activities on development cooperation in Africa.

Today we are a development NGO working in the eradication of some of the main causes of rootlessness caused by large deficit of basic services and decent housing, food insecurity and insufficient capacity to access the generation of economic resources. Ultimately in an NGO fighting poverty and mitigation of the causes and consequences of forced displacement. And next to it to value the migration as a factor of development and protection of vulnerable groups .
