The Egyptian Institute of Directors (EIoD) was established in 2003 as the first institute focusing on Corporate Governance in the Arab Region. It aims at spreading awareness, knowledge, and best practices of corporate governance in Egypt, the Middle East, and North Africa (MENA) region in a way that meets the legitimate expectations and best interests of various stakeholders, and in different types of organizations such as listed, non-listed, family-owned and state-owned enterprises (SOEs). The activities of the Institute are targeted at directors, key executives, shareholders, and other stakeholders of such organizations.

The Presidential decree no. 231/2004 - changed the affiliation of the EIoD from the Ministry of Trade & Industry to the Ministry of Investment and it was operated under the umbrella of the Ministry of Investment over the last 7 years.

In November 2011, the SCAF issued a Presidential decree no. 251/2011 regarding transferring the affiliation of the EIoD from the Ministry of Investment to the Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority EFSA.

The Decree

EIoD collaborates with many leading international organizations such as; United Nations Development Program (UNDP), World Bank Institute (WBI), International Finance Corporation (IFC), Organization for Economic Cooperation & Development (OECD), European Union (EU), Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) and other local authorities.

EIoD is supervised by a board of trustees which is responsible for the oversight of the EIoD. The board is headed by the Chairman of EFSA and composed of members from different entities, as well as chairmen from major Egyptian companies and financial institutions, and experts in corporate governance issues.

The EIoD offers a variety of services for the business community in Egypt and the region, including:

- Awareness Conferences and Seminars;

- Training Courses in corporate governance and related issues;

- Corporate Governance Consultancy;

- Research and Publications;

- Individual and Corporate Membership.
