Established in 1993, the Centre of Arab Women for Training and Research (CAWTAR) is a non-profit non-governmental regional Organization, enjoying an international legal personality. CAWTAR is a Unique organization in the Arab States region, as it specialized in promoting Gender to meet development challenges dedicated to the empowerment of Arab women as a critical social capital for good governance and prosperity in the region and that through Generating knowledge and enhancing the capacity of Arab institutions. CAWTAR system of governance is led by the Board of trustees composed of Arab Golf Programme For Development AGFUND, the Tunisian Government, United Nations Development Programme UNDP, the International Planned Parenthood Federation IPPF, United Nations Population Fund UNFPA, the League of Arab States and the World Bank.
As clearly stated in its act of establishment, CAWTAR’s role consists in the participation to the empowerment of woman and endowing her with new skills, providing also data base to help the decision makers transforming evidences into national plans contributing to the improvement of woman position and the reinforcement of her participation at all development planning, implementation and execution levels.
