ALCD's mission is promoting the rights of women, gender equality and the prevention of gender-based violence.

The Association of Fight Against Addiction (ALCD) was formed in 1999. Non-governmental organization non-profit, it is apolitical and non-union. Educated women and men executives, association is chaired by Toutou mint Ahmed Jiddou since its inception. Among its aid missions to vulnerable people in Mauritania, she helps victims of family disputes, mostly women and children, in all 9 moughatas (districts) in Nouakchott and in some other parts of the Mauritania as M'bout (Gorgol region). She also leads a mission of prevention, information and awareness about the Personal Status Code.

The association is engaged in the midst of family disputes. The first cases occur in the centers of the association (Arafat's neighborhoods and El Mina in Nouakchott). The members then work to establish an amicable solution between the various people involved in the dispute. When such a solution is not general agreement, then the association turned to the police and / or to the qadi (religious jurists). But such cases are rare, because the friendly solutions are more acclaimed by Mauritanian women.

According Toutou, family disputes have become numerous in recent years in Mauritania because "With democracy (...) the woman wanted to break free, and this is the original break with traditional society. This is where we started to act. In 1997, 1998, we started our advocacy. As much among women than men: This kind of problem is a problem that concerns both sexes. We have to find a happy medium. "
Organization

The first center of the association, the center "Rihab," is open to Arafat in 2003. (see photos). If today the headquarters of the association is the center of El-Mina (another poor district of Nouakchott), the association is very attached to Arafat center.

Fourteen employees and many volunteers spread throughout the country working for ALCD. The association also disperses "focal points" in the prefectures of different neighborhoods. They are responsible for solving cases of disputes with it, but also support for victims center.
