According to the first recommendation of establishing a work group that is concerned about Producers, transporters and distributors of Electricity which was recited in the Second Arab Energy Council, held in Qatar on March 1982. The AUE was established in 1987, during the first founding meeting held in Tunisia at the period 30/11-1/12/1987 attended by the following Arab countries: Jordan, Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, and Yemen.

Currently, the AUE consists of most Arab Ministries, companies and co-operations of Electricity; known as active members, and of manufacturing companies of electrical equipment and Executives of Electrical Works Known as Associate Members. They are 19 countries as follows: - Jordan, UAE, Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Iraq, Sultanate of Oman, Palestine, Egypt Morocco, Mauritania and Yemen. The members of AUE are 29 active members, 19 associate members and 2 observing members.

The Companies’ names are listed in details under the Members Icon in the main page. They all form the General Assembly of AUE supervised by Board of Directors of Eight members, elected from active members. The Board of Directors is replaced periodically in order to allow participation of all active members in Board membership.

The activities of the union are limited to technical and professional tasks, and do not perform any commercial political or religious activities.

AUE is situated in Amman – Jordan hosted by National Electric Power company in its building until the time being.

Arab Union of Electricity was established in 1987 as a gesture of a group of Arab electrical companies with the purpose of strengthening ties between members to improve power manufacturing in the Arab World.

The AUE is situated in Amman, the Hashemite kingdom of Jordan. It consists of 19 countries which are: - Jordan, UAE, Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Iraq, Sultanate of Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritania and Yemen.

The AUE aims at improving and developing the electricity sector in the Arab World, coordinating work fields between members and strengthening relations between them.
