Details

Established in 1993, ALPHA strongly believes that the central task of peace-building is to create a stable social equilibrium in which the surfacing of new disputes does not escalate into violence. The main aim of ALPHA is to contribute to the promotion of Children’s Human Rights and the development of Lebanon through popular and alternative education. As a result, ALPHA has developed an inclusive strategy and raised the educational capacities of hundreds of teachers, children, adults, and municipal leaders.

Starting in 2006, in the aftermath of the July war, ALPHA expanded its objectives to include projects providing relief and emergency aid, community capacity building and psychosocial and psychological support. Much of this programming was directed towards the South of Lebanon where the needs were the greatest.

Since 2011, ALPHA has recognized that the needs facing its neighbors in Syria is merely an extension of the association’s current mission, particularly given the close historical and cultural relations between the Lebanese and Syrian people. ALPHA aims to support vulnerable groups within the country, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), impoverished families, and women headed households either directly from its offices or through its local partners. Thus far, this has included basic aid, education, health, as well as organizational and technical capacity building.
